About us
Vann and Vanessa Brock are missionaries in Pucallpa, Peru, South America. They moved to Peru in 2004 with two babies: Corynn (21mo) and Ethan (5mo), and two years later, Clara was born in Lima.
Though Vann and Vanessa are both originally from Georgia, they met while serving in Moscow, Russia in 1993. Vann was an English teacher, and Vanessa (Nicolosi) was involved in ministry to orphans with her family. Vann is gifted with engineering capabilities, and before marrying in 2000, he spent two years traveling in South America as a missionary to missionaries. He has always enjoyed fixing and building things for missionaries who live and work in difficult places.
Their mission is twofold: Firstly, they build and run Petra Mission Base Camp to house and equip tribal-working, church-planting missionaries in the Peruvian Amazon jungle. The missionaries that the mission base supports typically live and work in tribal groups for two to three months and then come back to the base camp to rest and resupply for a few weeks in a safe and comfortable home on the base. When refreshed, they launch back into the bush, knowing that the Brocks are there to help in emergencies and send supplies when needed. Vann’s skillset is also useful out in the tribe where he helps with solar power installations, clean water collection, latrines, satellite internet, etc. Petra Mission Base Camp facilities are also used daily as a hospitality center for neighboring missions and local churches.
Secondly, the Brocks are making a significant impact by building the first and only Christian camp facility in their jungle region. This facility, which local churches can use for evangelistic youth camps and family retreats, has already been a blessing to the community despite being under construction.
The Brocks have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to teaching Bible Studies, leading the MK youth ministry, and overseeing Base Construction and Maintenance. They also support tribal-working missionaries by purchasing necessary supplies and are actively involved in Pioneer living, which demands a significant amount of time and energy.
